== Introduction ==
ProPresenter is a cross-platform lyric and media presentation program built from the ground up to help make powerful worship productions easy. Taking full advantage of the latest technologies, ProPresenter allows an operator to control a presentation on one screen, while dynamically affecting the visuals and lyrics experienced by an audience on one or more screens.
ProPresenter isnʼt just for the house of worship market. You will find Fortune 500 companies, schools, casinos, hospitals, colleges and many other types of non-church businesses using ProPresenter on a daily basis.

Why are we using it at SHC?
Audio and Visual media has become a natural part of how we do things in corporate worship at church. Powerpoint and VLC are great, but don’t allow for the kind of seamless integration of worship lyrics, sermon notes, and video that ProPresenter does. In order to make the worship experience least visually distracting, we are migrating to ProPresenter. The idea is that people won’t be distracted by visual glitches and switching between applications, but will be better able to focus on the Lord and worship him, which is why we’re all here.
The visual ministry at SHC has become an integral part of worship on Sundays, and so we believe that the same care and attention should be paid to it. Because the worship leaders are busy preparing their team and their set for Sunday, the responsibility of creating the worship lyrics set, and the visual Sunday lineup will fall on the visual person for that particular week. Ideally, that would mean that the visual person would be at worship practice (usually Monday night) to create the lineup and add any songs (not already in the library) being used that week to the library. However, once a comfort level is reached with the software, it’s now easy enough to import the order and double-check things on Sunday morning Then, the visual person would have time to run through the lineup (checking for typos) and making sure that their lineup will go smoothly on Sunday.

How will I know on Monday what the lineup will be on Sunday?
As you may or may not already know, our church has started using a tool called Planning Center Online, which allows the easy scheduling of activities throughout the church. Using Planning Center, the lineup for Sunday is created before Monday night by the worship leaders, pastors, and any special activities or guest speakers are added. In fact, even the flow of a particular song is on Planning Center (V1, C, V2, C2, B, C). ProPresenter 5 has a great feature which allows for import directly from Planning Center, which we’ll guide you through later

The ProPresenter Interface

SongSelect is a subscription-based service that allows you easy access to most Christian songs. Clicking on this button opens SongSelect inside the main ProPresenter window. We have a license to use this service and will talk more about it later when we discuss slide creation.

== Getting Started ==

Once the computer has started up (the password is “*CHECK DOC NEAR PC” in case you are asked), you will need to start up the projectors.

Launch Safari by clicking the icon in the dock. You should notice two bookmarks in the top bar:
These two bookmarks will bring up the remote controls for the projectors. Click “SHC Projector 1 Remote” and click the button to power on the projecter. Now do the same for Projector 2.

They will take 30 seconds or so to come on, and your display will flicker a few times while they are getting adjusted. You can now close Safari or minimize it to the dock. You won’t need it again until the end of the service where you’ll repeat the same steps, except press the button to power down each of the projectors.

Now launch ProPresenter by clicking the button in the dock.

== Creating a Sunday Morning Lineup ==

Next, in the Playlist section, import a playlist from Planning Center Online using the gear button in the lower lefthand corner.
Select “New PCO Playlist”. You will get a dialogue box with all of the Planning Center Plans. You will want to select the “Worship Service (Hockessin)” grouping and then pick the service you would like to create a playlist for.

Click the “+” button.

ProPresenter will automatically find matches (where possible) and put them in the playlist in the order specified in the Planning Center Online plan. If a match is found, the song should show a tiny ProPresenter logo next to it. Where it does not find an automatic match, you will need to either find in the library the correct song or load it from SongSelect. First, however, you will want to convert the playlist to a Non-PCO playlist so it can be edited. Simply right click on the Blue Playlist, and select “Convert to Non-PCO”. Click OK when the dialogue box is presented.

To search the library, simply start typing in the Library search box.
If you are able to find the correct song, simply drag it into the playlist at the correct position, and delete the placeholder.

If you are unable to find the missing song in the library, obtain a copy from the worship leader. Now, click the “SongSelect” button on the toolbar. This will bring up a dialogue box.

In the search bar, type the name of the missing song and hit the “Enter” or “Return” key. Click on the individual songs to compare the lyrics in SongSelect with the ones from the worship leader. When you’ve found a match, click the “Import” button.

You will be presented with another dialogue box. Make sure you select the template “Basic Smaller” as shown in the graphic. It is located in the “HBC Standard” template group. You can choose to import into the Library or into your playlist as well.

Make sure your newly added song is in the correct place within the lineup.

Since this is a new song, we will need to clean up the slides. Click on the new song in either the playlist or in the Library to bring up the slides in the slide area.

First, select each grouping (like Verse 1, Chorus, etc.) and assign them to an HBC group as shown below. Right click on the slide, and select Group Label and then the grouping. When you are finished, your slides should be lots of interesting colors. Now we need to add a Title slide. Click the “+” button in the lower lefthand side of the slide area. This will create a new slide. Now drag it to the beginning of the slides until you see a light blue bar. Drop your slide here. Right click on the slide and select Template > HBC Standard > Title.

Now right click on your new slide and select “Edit”. This will take you into slide edit mode. To change the title, double-click on the text object on the slide. Type the title for the slide. When it looks good, leave the slide edit mode by clicking on the “X” in the upper left-hand corner of the slide area.

When everything looks good, there’s just one last thing to do. Click on the little at the top of the slides. This will bring down an info list. Click the drop-down on the right-hand side and change the Category to “Song”. Now click File > Save All.

Rinse and Repeat for any other songs that need to be added.

== SHC Dropbox ==

Here at SHC, we use a service called Dropbox to store, send, and synchronize files between the Hockessin Campus and the Wilmington campus. To get to the Dropbox, just click the icon in the dock. This will open a finder window.

Click the Dropbox item in the “Favorites” section. Now click on the HBCPresenter folder. This is the church Dropbox.

To add something to the dropbox, simply drag the file into the Dropbox.

To add something in the dropbox to your ProPresenter playlist, simply drag it from the Dropbox to the playlist. This will add it to your lineup.

==Setting Up The System==
===Camera===
The camera mounts on the tripod in the loft area. This is plugged into the plug nearby, then the hdmi cable with mini hdmi adapter plugs into the left side of the camera.
The hdmi cable then plugs into the hdmi transmitter. This is plugged into the very long ethernet cord, which is run around the room to the tech table, and comes out behind it. It is labeled as video.

===Network===
An ethernet cable is run around from the plug in the center of the stage to the area behind the streaming table. It is labeled network.

===Streaming Box===
The streaming box is designed to compactly store all the streaming cables and cords, and keep them organized. Please try to keep things coiled nicely when you put it away so the cables don’t get damaged or kinked. This contains all the connections that are used to wire up the streaming components. And please never coil around hands or arms, that is bad for the cables.
NOTE: The wireless network is SHC Wilmington Tech, and the password is ephesians412.

Parts
From top left, going clockwise, the parts are:
Ethernet connections
Sound connections
Streaming computer connections
ProPresenter computer connections
Power cord (this now also has an extension cord that is not shown here)

===Ethernet Connections===
These ethernet connections have ethernet couplers on them. They are labeled network and video, and connect to the cables behind the streaming desk. This will connect to the network for streaming, and the camera for the video.

===Sound Connections===
The ethernet connection is to the ethernet plug on the sound board/ sound box. This will let the sound board use the wireless network that the streaming is using, so it can interface with the board or box. The other cable goes to the output that is designated for sound output to the stream. On the board, this was output 6. It may have changed, so check with the sound tech.

===Computer Connections===
The next two are for the computers that are running the services. Note that on the newer computer, you may need to flip over the connector to make it properly see the components. In my experience, the below picture of connections seemed to be the most reliable:

===ProPresenter Computer===
The ProPresenter Computer is the Alienware Computer soon to be moved to the Apple Mini
====If you are using direct HDMI Connection:====
You will need to run an HDMI cable from the computers hdmi output to the box mounted on the wall. The details of this are a bit beyond the scope of this guide as there are several different ways to do this, but contact us if you need help.
====If you are using Apple TV:====
Select the apple tv on the top bar of the mac, and set that to the output.
If ProPresenter lyrics or slides need to be a part of the stream:
Open ProPresenter to get it started, and to make sure the output is on the screens. Once started, open the NDI program to the right of the ProPresenter icon. Once this opens, in the bottom half of the screen select the ProPresenter output screen and click enable. Side Note: this will make the fan run on the computer, but there isn’t much to be done about that.

If the NDI program was not closed properly the last time, you may need to quit the program for the screen to come up to select the output.

===Sound===
Plug the XLR cable to USB adapter into Output 6 on the sound board.

===Streaming Computer===
Now that everything is connected, you can open OBS. Check the scenes and make sure you are getting inputs. If any of the devices are NOT working, double click the input in the middle column and use the dropdown - if things got plugged in differently or had to get re-plugged in, they may change names and need to be reselected. This only has to happen once per input, it will propagate to other scenes. Check the ndi input (if streaming ProPresenter lyrics or slides), the video camera input, the sound board input, and the video camera sound input.

IF you are using ProPresenter slides or announcements in the stream, the NDI input (ProPresenter) should say <NetworkName>(ProPresenter6-Output).
* SoundBoardAudio should be “Usb Audio Device” and then possibly a number if it’s been reconnected.
* CameraAudio should be “Unknown USB Audio Device” and then possibly a number.
* CameraVideo should be “USB Camera” and then possibly a number.
* Computer Audio is currently unset, if you need to play audio through the computer, it will likely need to be set to default.

You are FINALLY set up!

==Setting Up The Stream==
===On Youtube===
Open a browser, and go to Youtube. Click the Wilmington logo on the top right, and select YouTube Studio.

Click the Go Live Button on the Top Right.

If the stream hasn’t been preset, click the stream button, and fill in the information for the title. Leave as public, and add the description.

If the stream HAS been preset, or if you have already set up the stream above, click manage. Select the feed. On the new page, click copy on the stream key, this is the important part. Leave the page open, and go into OBS Studio. If previous settings were used when setting up the stream, the stream key will be the same, however it is better to be safe in this case.
In Obs
Click settings on the bottom right, then click on stream. Make sure youtube is selected, then paste in the stream key (on pc: control+v, on mac: command+v). Click Ok.

Switch to the Logo scene, as that is the starting scene for the stream. You can choose to fade it to black if you want, but that is not required.

==Starting the Stream==
===In Obs===
Click start streaming. You are NOT LIVE YET. Also, click start recording so we have a safety copy of the service.

===On YouTube===
The stream should start showing up in a few moments on the console, along with stream quality. Once it says you have a feed, click Go Live. NOW you are live.

===In Obs===
Going back to obs, if you are in black, you can now fade the logo in. Leave the logo for a few seconds, then feel free to either show announcements (if this has been set up), or go live to the room.

==Controlling the Stream==
===Changing Scenes===
The left hand side of the screen should show the preview screen. If there is only one screen showing, then click the “Studio” button to the bottom right to show the preview screen.

Clicking another scene on the bottom left will put that scene in the preview window. Examples of this are the logo, a technical difficulties slide, and the main camera feed. Additional scenes can be added to show announcement slides or verses from either another computer or a website.

If you click the transition button in between the windows, it will use the last transition to fade or cut between the live scene and the preview scene, switching them. You can also use the quick transition buttons to select different transitions.
Fine Tuning Audio
At the right or bottom of the screen should be the audio mixer. Please note that if you are not in a scene with audio (like the logo), these may not show up as there is intentionally no audio feed for those scenes.

This scene shows audio sources at the top right:

This scene had no audio sources:

This will show the input level for different devices. If possible, never have an audio source go into the red. At its loudest, try to keep it in the yellow. This would be during worship songs for the sound board, and likely also during worship from the camera.

The sound board doesn’t have room noise, so it will end up being very “dry”, without hearing laughter or singing from the audience. However, too much camera noise can make it sound echo-y or out of sync. So the first few times that a livestream is being done, it is wise to try and fine tune the levels if possible. Due to the delay of the stream (usually 10 seconds or so), it takes a while to hear these changes, so it can take a while to get it fine tuned. You can also use the headphones on the computer if that is set up to do this live. This should end with a better balance.

==Ending the Stream==
===On YouTube===
Click End Stream on the streaming page. This will complete the steam. It is best to open and close with a logo, and you should wait for the logo to appear in the monitor on youtube (as there is a delay) before ending the feed.

===On Obs===
Click stop streaming (and stop recording) to end the sending of the stream.

===In The Room===
Coil up the cables as nicely as you can, and put the cover on the streaming box. Pack up the camera as well and put both into storage.

==Setting Up The System==
===Camera===

===Network===
An ethernet cable is run around from the plug in the center of the stage to the area behind the streaming table. It is labeled network.

===Streaming Box===

===Ethernet Connections===
These ethernet connections have ethernet couplers on them. They are labeled network and video, and connect to the cables behind the streaming desk. This will connect to the network for streaming, and the camera for the video.

===Sound Connections===

===Computer Connections===
The next two are for the computers that are running the services. Note that on the newer computer, you may need to flip over the connector to make it properly see the components. In my experience, the below picture of connections seemed to be the most reliable:

The ProPresenter Computer is the Alienware Computer

===Sound===
Plug the XLR cable to USB adapter into Output 6 on the sound board.

===Streaming Computer===
Now that everything is connected, you can open OBS. Check the scenes and make sure you are getting inputs. If any of the devices are NOT working, double click the input in the middle column and use the dropdown - if things got plugged in differently or had to get re-plugged in, they may change names and need to be reselected.

==Personal Standards==

===Timeliness===
Please try to be on time, if not early. There are always things that need to be setup before anyone can begin playing, and so timeliness is vital.

===Attitude===
The job of a sound person is to be a conduit for worship for everyone. The goal is to "enhance, not distract". In fact, if no one notices what you did that week, that means you likely did a really good job, as people were so engaged that you were unnoticed.

At the same time, mistakes happen every week to every person. Roll with it, learn from it, and move on.

==Setup==
===Basic Setup===
After turning on the sound board, make sure that you remember to turn on the mic receivers.

Next, get the mics ready. Make sure to put new batteries in the mics, and quickly test them to ensure they have signal.

Next, set up any instruments that may need to be moved around, or wired for that service.

===Item Specific Setup===
====Cajon====

The low mic should be a condenser mic and gets put just inside the bottom vent. The high mic should be a sm57. Make sure to set it up so the drummer won't hit the high mic with their playing hand.

==Sound Check==
===Process===
There are many ways of doing sound check, with "top down" (starting with the higher frequency instruments or vocals) or "bottom up" being the most common. Both have their benefits, the only thing is to try to be consistent.

====Order of Operations====

It is always best if the performers are warmed up, and initially, to go person by person. If there is not time for this, then just have them play a song and quickly try to dial it in. This also has the benefit of having them focus on playing, so they may play at the level they will likely play at during the event.

Once that is done, have them play together to verify the gains and the levels. Once they have gone through a little, then you can have a conversation about where their monitor levels are, and they can be adjusted. Once monitors are being adjusted, unless absolutely necessary, please don't change any gain levels.

====Settings====

=====Mics=====
A safe starting point for the vocal mics is about 27db of gain, and adjusted from there.

=====Instruments=====

==Running Service==

==Strike==

===Cables===

====Coiling Cables====
Coiling cables properly makes things far easier for everyone. Please always follow the "Over/Under" coiling technique. If you don't know it, ask someone, or watch this short video:

[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0yPcJD7RVuY How to Properly Roll Cable]

====Attaching Cable Ties====
Cable ties should always be attached to the male side of any cable that is male/female. This is so that the tie is not near the mic or instrument, and is instead near where it is plugged in.

Always have the loop part of the cable tie toward the outside. This minimizes the hooks getting caught on carpeting or getting as much junk stuck inside it. It also is far more comfortable when carrying cables to not have the rough loops on your hands/arms.

It is sometimes helpful to put the cable tie a few inches away from the connector, in case the coiling ends don't quite line up.

====Labeling Cables====
Since cables can often be swapped out, it is better to label with descriptions that are not tied to a specific item. This way if a cable gets swapped, you don't have to worry as much about changing labels.

Labels, if used, should be put on both connectors for ease of tracing.

[[Category:Sound]]

==Turning On The System==
Click the big red button at the bottom of the rack next to the sound board. This will turn on the sound board, amps, and the stage box.

==Event Preparation==

===If using microphones===
Click the gray sennheiser button in the middle of the rack. This will turn on the mic receivers.

The microphones are in a case under the sound board. Replace the batteries with new ones from the charger. The handheld mics you unscrew the bottom, and the lapel mics you open the front. If you are using the red microphone, do not use the eneloop batteries as they are not strong enough to make it work.

===If Using Instruments===
Instruments can be plugged into smaller snakes on the stage or directly to the stage box on the side of stage left. To make things easier, it is best if you plug the instruments into the sockets that are already patched for them on the board. a current list can be found on the [[Media:SHC_-_Sound_Inputs_2021.png|Sound Input List]].

===If Livestreaming or Recording===
Hit the record button on the recorder on the rack. Currently this is set as the passthrough to streaming, and so it needs to be in the ready state for sound to go to streaming. Make sure to hit this again at the start of service to start the recording.

==Using the Sound Board==
Take the cover off if it is not off already.

===Layout===
On the left side are channels. You can change pages by hitting the buttons on the far left.

{| class="wikitable"
!colspan="4"|Layer 1
|-
|Lapel
|Mics
|Instruments(except drums)
|Line Inputs (ipod, computer)
|-
!colspan="4"|Layer 2
|-
|Room Mic
|Choir Mics
|Spare Channels
|Drums
|}

On the right side are the group controls. In general, for most use cases you can stay on the DCA layer on top.

===DCAs===
DCA are grouped volume and mute controls, and are on the right side of the board. For example, if you have all the microphones at a good level relative to one another, but want to turn them all up, it is very difficult to make the relational volume changes to all the channels at the same time and still have it sound correct. DCAs automate this for you, and you can use this instead to control all those channels at once.

They also can act as mute groups, and more on this in a moment.

===Turning on Channels===

====Un-Muting====
It is best to only have the channels you will be using unmuted. The order of muting is that hard channel muting takes precedence over group muting. This will allow you to hard mute channels not used at all in a service, but be able to group mute and unmute all the channels of one type during the service itself.

======If the mute button is hard red======
This means the channel control itself is muted. Hit the mute button to take off the hard mute on that channel. This MAY still leave the channel muted, but flashing, and in that case continue to the next step.

======If the mute button is flashing======
This is a group mute. Click the mute button over the DCA that controls that group to unmute the channels. Note that the drums are included in both instruments and drums for volume control and ease of mute purposes.

===Setting Levels===
Generally, sound will be acceptable with only changing the gain and the volume sliders. EQ you can choose to change, but is not required. Most times, compression and other settings can be ignored unless you are intimately familiar with the board.

====Setting Gain====
Before you can correctly set the volume slider, the gain needs to be adjusted to be correct. This ensures a good signal to noise ratio, and should in general allow less need to heavily adjust the sliders.

In general, the input level should be set to '''-18 db'''. Most important is to have the input coming in near it's loudest volume it will likely be at during the event, otherwise this will not be set correctly.

On the display LEDs, this is the end of the green LEDs. To access this, click SEL on a channel. You can either hit the SEL button then on the CONFIG/PREAMP on the top left of the board to see the levels more clearly, or just turn the GAIN knob at the far top left of the board until the input level is where it needs to be.

====Setting Sliders====
Generally, sliders can be set at about 0db, or "unity", as the most fine tuned control is in this range. This is just a starting point though, and this is the place where most of your adjustments will be made.

==Further Information==
If you are setting up for a service, you should likely continue onto '''OTHER ARTICLES TO BE ADDED LATER'''

==Cleanup==
* If using mics, please put them away.
* If you disconnected anything, please reconnect it.
* Turn off the main breaker on the rack.
*Cover the sound board back up.
