Introduction
Framing is the way that the camera is positioned to help the viewer engage with the content. There are common standards that are used to best help the variety of devices best show the content and to also ensure that things look the way people expect it to.

Safe Areas
While most mobile devices will show all the content on their screen, this is not always true for all devices. This was actually much worse with old CRT devices, but modern HD televisions often still have issues. In fact, this can even be seen in the lobby televisions at the Hockessin campus, where the screen of the tv extends a bit into the bezel.

For this reason, the best practice is to keep all text and edge items (top of people's heads, baptistry, etc) within 90% of the frame. OBS has this visible on the preview frame.

Power on the board by hitting Power. It will then take a few minutes to cycle through and discover the cameras.

Once the LCD display on the board itself says “Main Menu”, you can start programming the presets.

Presets for cameras
Both camera 1 and 2 use the same basic presets for most settings. Until these can get saved again, they will have to be adjusted for each camera. Once these are set, you can then use the joystick to set the looks.

Baseline Settings
The basic settings uses auto controls, and those are far from optimized. Therefore, we need to use manual settings.

; Gain
* Click the Auto Iris button so it is no longer blue. Turn the Gain knob so it says “Iris Gain>11” on the LCD
* Turn the Iris knob so it says Iris> f2.3 on the LCD for the main camera, and f2.4 for the side camera

; White Balance
* Click the AWB button so it is no longer blue.
* Turn the red knob so it says “Red Gain> 0” on the LCD
* Turn the blue knob so it says “Blue Gain> 85” on the LCD

; Focus
* This is set once you have set up the shot framing with the joystick. Have someone stand in front of the camera so you can ensure focus is correct, or at least within a close proximity.
* Click the Auto Focus button so it is no longer blue. Then use the rotary dial to finalize the focus.

Saving
Save a preset by pressing and holding the camera you are setting up on the control A row. The camera presets will chase (each number blinking in turn), showing you which presets are available. Click and hold a preset number to program that preset.

Preparation
* Check on the song list midweek. If there are any songs you do not know, you are HIGHLY encouraged to listen to them on the spotify playlist.
* Arrive at least 30 minutes before rehearsal.
* Go to planning center and print out copies of the worship service plan for all back table and worship team members.
* Turn on rear TV and Projectors.
* Ensure rear tv is on hdmi1 and is not in a zoomed screen format so the entire slide is visible.
* Import the planning center service.
* Ensure that all the songs are linked to slides. If not, import the slides from song select.
* If any songs are using 2 line or 3 line format, re-import the song from song select with a -<incrementing number> at the end.
* If there is no title slide, add a title slide with the song flow widget.
* Ensure that all slides are using the SHC template.
* Go through all songs and get an idea of their flow.
* Import the Sunday Morning Announcements presentation into the beginning of the service.
* Replace all announcement slides with the slides in Dropbox. If any file shows a size of zero, double click it so it gets downloaded.
* Check with the pastor to see if they have any slideshows.
* Check with worship leader to see if any verses need to be shown.

Rehearsal
* Get an idea of the flow of the songs, and ensure that there are no typos, and that the needed slides are there (using the song flow widget can help with this).
* Check in with the worship leader with any questions so the slides are accurate for service, and the timing needed for the transitions.

Service
* Try to be a bit ahead of the slide transition (1-3 words before the end of a slide to give it time to change and people time to read).

Cleaning up
* Shut down projectors and the rear tv.

* Turn the Iris knob so it says Iris> f2.8 on the LCD.

; White Balance

If Using Instruments
Instruments can be plugged into smaller snakes on the stage or directly to the stage box on the side of stage left. To make things easier, it is best if you plug the instruments into the sockets that are already patched for them on the board. a current list can be found on the .
On the right side are the group controls. In general, for most use cases you can stay on the DCA layer on top.

DCAs
DCA are grouped volume and mute controls, and are on the right side of the board. For example, if you have all the microphones at a good level relative to one another, but want to turn them all up, it is very difficult to make the relational volume changes to all the channels at the same time and still have it sound correct. DCAs automate this for you, and you can use this instead to control all those channels at once.

They also can act as mute groups, and more on this in a moment.

Turning on Channels
Un-Muting
It is best to only have the channels you will be using unmuted. The order of muting is that hard channel muting takes precedence over group muting. This will allow you to hard mute channels not used at all in a service, but be able to group mute and unmute all the channels of one type during the service itself.

If the mute button is hard red
This means the channel control itself is muted. Hit the mute button to take off the hard mute on that channel. This MAY still leave the channel muted, but flashing, and in that case continue to the next step.

If the mute button is flashing
This is a group mute. Click the mute button over the DCA that controls that group to unmute the channels. Note that the drums are included in both instruments and drums for volume control and ease of mute purposes.

Setting Levels
Generally, sound will be acceptable with only changing the gain and the volume sliders. EQ you can choose to change, but is not required. Most times, compression and other settings can be ignored unless you are intimately familiar with the board.

Setting Gain
Before you can correctly set the volume slider, the gain needs to be adjusted to be correct. This ensures a good signal to noise ratio, and should in general allow less need to heavily adjust the sliders.

In general, the input level should be set to -18 db. Most important is to have the input coming in near it's loudest volume it will likely be at during the event, otherwise this will not be set correctly.

On the display LEDs, this is the end of the green LEDs. To access this, click SEL on a channel. You can either hit the SEL button then on the CONFIG/PREAMP on the top left of the board to see the levels more clearly, or just turn the GAIN knob at the far top left of the board until the input level is where it needs to be.

Setting Sliders
Generally, sliders can be set at about 0db, or "unity", as the most fine tuned control is in this range. This is just a starting point though, and this is the place where most of your adjustments will be made.
Turning On The System
Click the big red button at the bottom of the rack next to the sound board. This will turn on the sound board, amps, and the stage box.

Event Preparation
If using microphones
Click the gray sennheiser button in the middle of the rack. This will turn on the mic receivers.

The microphones are in a case under the sound board. Replace the batteries with new ones from the charger. The handheld mics you unscrew the bottom, and the lapel mics you open the front. If you are using the red microphone, do not use the eneloop batteries as they are not strong enough to make it work.

If Using Instruments
Instruments can be plugged into smaller snakes on the stage or directly to the stage box on the side of stage left. To make things easier, it is best if you plug the instruments into the sockets that are already patched for them on the board. a current list can be found on the .

If Livestreaming or Recording
Hit the record button on the recorder on the rack. Currently this is set as the passthrough to streaming, and so it needs to be in the ready state for sound to go to streaming. Make sure to hit this again at the start of service to start the recording.

Using the Sound Board
Take the cover off if it is not off already.

Layout
On the left side are channels. You can change pages by hitting the buttons on the far left. They are organized into groups of channels for ease of finding things.

colspan="4"|Layer 1
Lapel
Mics
Instruments(except drums)
Line Inputs (ipod, computer)
colspan="4"|Layer 2
Room Mic
Choir Mics
Spare Channels
Drums

Further Information
If you are setting up for a service, you should likely continue onto OTHER ARTICLES TO BE ADDED LATER

Cleanup
* If using mics, please put them away.
* If you disconnected anything, please reconnect it.
* Turn off the main breaker on the rack.
*Cover the sound board back up.

Setup
Turn on the streaming computer (power button is on top), and the camera switcher (hold the power button).

Once everything is on, open Livestream Studio on the Desktop.

Setting up Streams
Livestream and Facebook
Click on the Livestream icon on the lower middle right of the screen. Then, click <code>+ New Event</code>. On this page, type in "Hockessin Campus" plus the date. Set the time and date, and click create event. Back in Livestream Studio, drop down the event list on the left and select the new event. This will NOT setup YouTube however.

YouTube
YouTube is usually set up earlier so it can be added to the weekly newsletter. Click the YouTube icon on the bottom right, and drop it down to that weeks service name.

Setting up Cameras
You can select the cameras by clicking their number on Control A. Set up the settings per the Camera Switcher Guide.

The first 7 presets are setup for common views. The bottom bank of 8-14 can be adjusted situationally.

Camera Presets
# Worship Team
# Announcements (in front of table)
# Pastor with Slide GFX
# Pastor Closeup
# Pastor Wide
# Pulpit (for other speakers or announcements)
# Full Wide

If you are setting new presets, it may be wise to reference the information in the [Streaming Camera Style Guide].

Lobby Televisions
With the cameras setup, go out to the lobby and turn on the two televisions (the remotes are on the back right, velcroed on, or you can click the button on the bottom middle to turn them on). If the popup is on the middle of the screen, refer to Streaming Troubleshooting.
This is how you click away from the random alerts on the computer streaming to the tvs in the entryway.

On one of the computers on the tech table, search for VNC Viewer. Open it, and if it's not in the recent list, search for 10.1.13.109. Connect to it, and then the computer mouse and keyboard will act as the mouse and keyboard on that computer. Click the message away, and close out of VNC Viewer.

Personal Standards
Timeliness
Please try to be on time, if not early. There are always things that need to be setup before anyone can begin playing, and so timeliness is vital.

Attitude
The job of a sound person is to be a conduit for worship for everyone. The goal is to "enhance, not distract". In fact, if no one notices what you did that week, that means you likely did a really good job, as people were so engaged that you were unnoticed.

At the same time, mistakes happen every week to every person. Roll with it, learn from it, and move on.

Setup
Basic Setup
After turning on the sound board, make sure that you remember to turn on the mic receivers.

Next, get the mics ready. Make sure to put new batteries in the mics, and quickly test them to ensure they have signal.

Next, set up any instruments that may need to be moved around, or wired for that service.

Item Specific Setup
Cajon
The low mic should be a condenser mic and gets put just inside the bottom vent. The high mic should be a sm57. Make sure to set it up so the drummer won't hit the high mic with their playing hand.

Sound Check
Process
There are many ways of doing sound check, with "top down" (starting with the higher frequency instruments or vocals) or "bottom up" being the most common. Both have their benefits, the only thing is to try to be consistent.

Order of Operations
It is always best if the performers are warmed up, and initially, to go person by person. If there is not time for this, then just have them play a song and quickly try to dial it in. This also has the benefit of having them focus on playing, so they may play at the level they will likely play at during the event.

Once that is done, have them play together to verify the gains and the levels. Once they have gone through a little, then you can have a conversation about where their monitor levels are, and they can be adjusted. Once monitors are being adjusted, unless absolutely necessary, please don't change any gain levels.

Settings
Mics
A safe starting point for the vocal mics is about 27db of gain, and adjusted from there.

Instruments

You can change pages by hitting the buttons on the far left.

colspan="4"|Layer 1
Lapel
Mics
Instruments(except drums)
Line Inputs (ipod, computer)
colspan="4"|Layer 2
Room Mic
Choir Mics
Spare Channels
Drums

Basic Troubleshooting
The Lights Won't Come On
The Buttons on the wall plates are not lit up
Check the power to the wall plate control near the sound board. It has likely come unplugged.

The Buttons on the wall plates are purple
This means the wall plates are being bypassed by someone controlling the lights using a more advanced lighting system. If there is someone there controlling lights, talk to them. If no one is there, make sure that there is no cord from the control station by the sound board plugged into a computer or lighting console.

Lights Are Flashing
House Lights are flashing, stage lights are not
This is generally an issue with the dimmer system. This is in the closet, with 6 plugs into the dimmer. If the issue is only one of the house light circuits, try unplugging it and then plugging it back in. If that doesn't work, try powering the dimmer pack itself on and off with the switches at the bottom. If that doesn't fix it, try unplugging the control box by the lighting board. If it still doesn't work, it's not likely something you can fix without calling someone.

Stage Lights are Flashing
This is usually due to a glitch in the wireless dmx control. In the closet, turn on and off the following breakers, which are listed for lighting gear only.
* 15 & 17
* 14 & 16

Once it all comes back on, this SHOULD resolve it.

If it does not resolve it, go to the dimmer pack in the closet. Unplug and plug back in the antenna below the dimmer rack. This will reset the transmitter to the stage lights.

If it is still not resolved, call the person who knows lighting the best.

Fonts
The standard font for church materials is Montserrat. For worship slides, Montserrat Semi Bold or Montserrat Bold are also possible to be used, but the "alternates" are not used for official church content.

The church also uses Pill Gothich 300mg Bold and Northwell for logos.

Font Size
Minimum font size takes into account both the readability of the text for people in the room on the screen, and also people at home through insets on livestream.

The minimum font size for general slides is 36pt.

As a general rule, worship slides should be twice the minimum, or at least 72 pt.

Colors
While white on black is usually the easiest to read for most content, there are many practical uses for different color choices. However, there are several practical issues that should be taken into account:

* Color Blindness considerations

* The fact that colors on the projected screen are significantly more muted or washed out compared to a normal monitor.

* Some colors just do not work well together for readability.

Therefore, as a general rule, we recommend that you put the two colors you want into the tool at Contrast-Ratio.com and ensure you have a score of at least 5.

Reference: Font Size Calculation
(From the initial research email):

This site has a good starting point for video walls.

Let's use their suggestion of 1" per 15' of distance from the screen. The approximate max distance from the closer screen at the church is about 42', so let's assume we want 3" high text as a minimum.

Next we have to figure out the ppi of the screen so we know how high this font needs to be. I suspect the screen is actually 4:3 instead of 16:9, but we are still outputting 1080p. The screen I expect is 12'x9'. This means a 15' diagonal screen, at only a 12 ppi (based on a calculation on this site).

Therefore, we want the text 36 pixels high. According to the first article, pt sizes are usually a bit smaller than the pixel size, so let's go with 75% off, or about 28 pt as the minimum.

Now, clearly, this is just the projector screens. However, phones and tablets have a much larger dpi and people are closer, so those should scale just fine.
