Sound Checklist[edit]

Preparation[edit]

  • Check Planning Center so you know how many mics and what instruments are being used.
  • Arrive at least 10 minutes before rehearsal.
  • Turn on sound system with Big Red Button.
  • Put new batteries in mics, ensuring that Red has only 2300ma batteries if it is being used.
  • Put the old batteries in the charger to ensure that they are being charged.
  • Setup any direct boxes or instrument mics that may be needed for that week.
  • Make sure all monitors are unmuted on mute groups and on layer 2
  • Check your sends on fader for all monitors to ensure that all instruments and mics you need that week are unmuted
  • Make sure all items being used that week are not hard muted (solid mute light)
  • Turn off any FX before starting sound check so you can properly hear how the item is sounding naturally

Sound Check[edit]

  • Set the gain on all items to ~-18db (the line between green and yellow under Input:Config.
  • Check the compressor settings and make sure it is correct.
  • Turn off EQ on each item to start (other than drums) so you can hear a natural baseline.
  • EQ that specific item to allow for clarity and minimizing muddiness.

Rehearsal[edit]

  • Determine what mix to have for each song, balancing all the elements to blend together.

Service[edit]

  • Ensure the recorder is recording before services.

Cleaning up[edit]

  • SAVE the sound board settings under show control in case anything gets changed (or to be used for a virtual sound check).
  • Put all the microphones away.
  • Ensure that the recorder has adequate time to archive the recording.
  • Check the SD card to make sure it is not full on the recorder.
  • Turn off the sound system.
  • As you are leaving, double check that all tvs and projectors are off.
